Property scams feel sophisticated in the moment, but they almost always rely on the same small set of tricks. Once you can name them, they lose their power.
The red flags, in order of danger
- Pay before you view. Any request for a deposit, "booking fee" or "viewing fee" before you have seen the property and verified the owner is the reddest flag there is.
- A price that is too good to be true. Deep-discount rent or a suspiciously cheap plot in a prime area is bait, not luck.
- No verifiable title. If the seller cannot provide title details you can search yourself, stop.
- No verifiable owner. The person selling must match the ID and the registered owner, or hold a valid power of attorney.
- Duplicated or stock photos. Reverse-image checks often reveal the same photos across many "different" listings.
- Urgency and secrecy. "Many people are interested, pay today" is manufactured pressure to stop you thinking.
How the platform protects you
GetYourHome is built trust-first for exactly this reason. Listings carry a trust score and verification level; providers are re-verified regularly; and confirmed fraud reports can freeze a provider’s entire workspace. Ranking is trust + quality + freshness — never paid placement — so no scammer can simply buy their way to the top.
